ARTHUR J. VAN SUETENDAEL, III class of October 1946 of Hobe Sound, Florida, passed away suddenly on August 15, 2007 at the Jupiter Medical Center. Born on September 3, 1926, he was the son of the late Arthur and Florence (Ewing) Van Suetendael, Jr. He grew up in Yonkers, New York, where, as a boy and young man, he enjoyed sailing on the Hudson River. He graduated from Gorton High School in Yonkers. He attended Georgia Institute of Technology and was a member of the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity. He earned his Civil Engineering degree in 1950. He volunteered for active duty in the United States Navy in 1951. As a Lieutenant [JG] he served as Executive Officer aboard the minesweeper USS Curlew during the Korean War, seeing action off the Korean Peninsula. Following his naval service, he worked as a site planning consultant for Stelling, Lordwood and Van Suetendael in New York City. He subsequently moved to the village of Briarcliff Manor, New York, where he settled, married and raised his family. He served as Town Engineer and (later) as Supervisor for the nearby town of Ossining, New York. He worked as a professional consulting engineer until his retirement in 1993. He and his wife, Mary then moved to Hobe Sound, Florida.
