Peter Douglas Banks, Sr. (Class of 1947), of Glastonbury, CT, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 18, 2003. He was born in New Rochelle, NY, and lived there until moving to West Hartford, CT. Doug graduated from Hall High School as well as the New York State Maritime Academy at Fort Schuyler. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at Trinity College in Hartford. Dougs passion was the sea. He was an avid offshore yachtsman and racer, with ports of call throughout the Northeast and Caribbean, and made a trans-Atlantic crossing in 1976. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, and the Founder and first President of Wood Ledge Swim Club in Glastonbury He was also a third degree Mason, the Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 134, and was active in Glastonbury Little League. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Bassette, of West Hartford, his son Peter, of Mannheim, Germany, his son Robert, of Colchester, CT, his daughter, Sara, and his son Thomas, of Fords, NJ.
