Details:
JOHN DOYLE, class of 1968 passed away on January 21,2010, after an heroic 3 year battle against a Non Malignant Brain Tumor. He is survived by his wife of 37 years Joanne, two brothers Chris & Patrick (PJ) and a sister Maureen. John had 4 great children Kevin, Jennifer, Meredith and Sean. Their ages range from the early 20s to the early 30s. John started his career as a Third Assistant Engineer sailing with MEBA District 2. He made two trips to Viet Nam during the Viet Nam war. He sailed mainly with Seatrain lines during his 3 years at sea. After upgrading his license to Second Assistant Engineer & his commission to Lieutenant (USNR), John decided to come ashore in 1972. His first shoreside job was at Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation (SWEC) where he was in the Process Industries Group. While there, he worked on several petrochemical plants. John moved up rapidly at SWEC & transferred into the Industrial Group. He worked on several waste to energy plants, as lead engineer, project engineer & project manager before becoming Mechanical Engineering Manager for both the NYC office & Cherry Hill office. He had 70 people reporting to him, at this time. John then, moved onto Burns & Roe for a few years before ending up at the NYC Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). He spent over 10 years at the MTA & was a Principle Engineer providing technical support for the bus depots in NYC. John was a Registered PE in New York State who enjoyed spending a few weeks every year at Montauk Point. John was in his car in the parking lot with his family at Amangansett on a foggy July weekend in the 1980s when a gentleman from England rode up on his bicycle with his child on the back. The Gentleman was Sir Paul McCartney of the Beatles. The Doyle family recognized him immediately & spoke with him at length. Sir Paul was very gracious, as usual, during their conversation. John was a great guy who is sorely missed by his friends, family & coworkers. However, it is a very safe bet that he is in a much better place now!!
