ROBERT F GEPPERT , of Ulster, Smithfield Township, NJ, died on Saturday morning, December 13, 2003, at his home.

Robert was a graduate of Waverly High School, following which he entered the New York State Maritime Academy. After graduating from what had just become the New York State Maritime College, he went to sea as a merchant mariner for 20 years, retiring as a chief engi¬neer. Robert was a veteran of both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War.

On Sept. 14, 1957, he married the former Mary Ellen Coolidge in Wellsboro. Following his completion of service at sea, Robert taught for five years at MEBA Engineering School in Baltimore, MD. Robert and his family were residents of Ellicott City, MD for 16 years before moving to Smithfield Township in 1973. Robert loved his property in Smithfield Township, where he constructed his family’s home and completed extensive and creative landscaping projects. He enjoyed building beautiful stone walls and growing fruits and vegetables. Robert was well known in the area for his maple syrup products and for the vegetables and melons he sold from his stand and distributed to area residents.

Robert was an active and devoted member of the Ulster Village Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder and church treasurer for many years. His church family was very important to him. Surviving him are his wife of 46 years, two sons and daughters-in-law, Samuel T. and Beverly Geppert of Lockwood, NY, and Stephen G. and Linda Geppert of Elizabethtown, PA, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, his brother and sister-in-law, Alan and Pat Geppert of New Smyrna Beach, FL, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
