We are all filled with sorrow about the untimely death

BOB KREKEL . Bob's more than 17 years of service to COSCO are filled with dedication and his achievements have made our company much stronger and more successful. Bob Krekel was a graduate of the State University of New York Maritime College with a degree in Marine Transportation Management and a Third Mates license. After three years at sea, he came ashore as a Port Captain with Norton Lilly International where he attained the positions of General Manager Liner Services and Assistant Vice President of the Bulk Ship and Tanker Division.
Bob joined COSCO North America on April 1, 1988 as General Manager of the Commerce Department encompassing Sales, Marketing and Pricing. On August 15, 1996, he was promoted to Assistant Vice President of National Sales. Not long after that Bob was again promoted to the position of Vice President National Sales on December 16, 1998. In May 2002, Bob accepted the responsibility of Vice President of Operations Management. This was followed by promotion to Senior Vice President of Operations Management in October 2002. At the formation of COSCO Container Lines Americas, Inc. in March 2005 Bob was promoted to Executive Vice President, Operations Management with responsibility for Shipment Management, Land Operations and Marine Operations.
As Executive Vice President Bob made significant contributions to COSCO and to various industry organizations. COSCO was one of the first group of carriers to participate in CTPAT. This effort was spearheaded by Mr. Krekel as our Corporate Security Officer. He was a major player in OCEMA 's successes in the legislative and operational spheres. His loss will be deeply felt by our company and all of our employees who considered him part of our COSCO family . We send our condolences to his wife and family on this very sad occasion.

A funeral Mass is scheduled Monday for Robert F. Krekel, executive vice president, operations, at Cosco Container Lines America Inc., who died Thursday of an apparent heart attack. Mr. Krekel, 50, spent 17 years at Cosco and previously worked for Norton, Lilly & Co.
He was a graduate of the New York State Maritime Academy at Fort Schuyler.
His survivors include his wife, Merredith, two children and a brother.
Visitation hours are Saturday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Tuttle Funeral Home, 272 Highway 10, Randolph, N.J. The funeral Mass is scheduled for Monday at 11 a.m. at Hicksville, Long Island, with burial at Charles Cemetery, Pinelawn, N.Y.
